BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription drug that, when injected, temporarily paralyzes muscles. It contains a purified and safe form of botulinum toxin A, which is produced by the microbe that causes botulism. Manufactured by Allergan, Inc., it is used to treat permanent furrows and deep wrinkles in the skin that are formed by the continual contraction of facial muscles. In addition to its cosmetic applications, it is used to treat a number of medical problems, including excessive sweating, overactive bladder, neck spasms, crossed eyes, chronic back and jaw pain, and migraines. Applications for BOTOX Cosmetic Although originally approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of eye and muscle spasms, BOTOX Cosmetic was quickly recognized for its cosmetic value. Properly placed injections of BOTOX Cosmetic block nerve impulses sent to muscles, weakening them to the point where they cannot contract, and temporarily eliminating moderately severe furrows and lines. BOTOX Cosmetic is used to treat the following: Forehead furrows Frown lines Crow's feet Skin bands on the neck According to Allergan, BOTOX Cosmetic has been "extensively researched, with approximately 2500 studies." BOTOX Cosmetic Procedure and Results Using a very fine needle, BOTOX Cosmetic is injected directly into facial muscles that are causing furrows and lines. Receiving the injections requires no anesthetic, but some doctors choose to numb the area to be injected with ice packs or a topical anesthetic cream. Results can usually be seen within a few days of treatment, and typically last up to four months, although areas that are treated on a regular basis may retain results longer. Injections should be given only by qualified medical professionals. Side Effects of BOTOX Cosmetic Injection-site side effects of BOTOX Cosmetic are usually mild and temporary, and include the following: Pain Infection Inflammation Tenderness Swelling Redness Bleeding Bruising Normal activities may be resumed immediately after receiving injections.

JUVÉDERM® XC injectable gel is a U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved dermal filler that, according to its manufacturer, Allergan, Inc., is designed to "temporarily treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds" in people older than 21. Unlike the original JUVÉDERM injectable gel, JUVÉDERM XC is infused with lidocaine to make its injection more comfortable. JUVÉDERM XC is a smooth-consistency gel that restores volume to the skin, and smooths away moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds. It is made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a sugar that occurs naturally in the body. In terms of the skin, HA's role is to deliver nutrients and hydration, and act as a cushioning agent. Young, healthy skin contains a lot of HA, but factors that include aging and sun exposure reduce the amount, causing skin to lose structure and volume. JUVÉDERM XC is most effective in improving the appearance of nasolabial folds, the lines that run from the bottom of the nose to the corner of the mouth on both sides of the face. JUVÉDERM XC Injectable Gel Procedure JUVÉDERM XC injections take about 15 minutes to administer in a doctor's office. A fine needle is used for the injection, which is given under the skin in the targeted area to add volume or fill in wrinkles and folds. Because JUVÉDERM XC contains lidocaine to improve comfort, an anesthetic may not be needed. However, a doctor may still elect to use a topical anesthetic on the area to be treated before giving the injection. Afterword, the doctor may gently massage the treated area(s). Once treatment is completed, patients can return, with virtually no downtime, to their regular activities. For the first 24 hours after treatment, to reduce the risk of complications, patients should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and alcohol consumption. Results of JUVÉDERM XC Injectable Gel The results of JUVÉDERM XC are visible immediately after injection; any swelling and bruising, to which ice can be applied, should subside during the next few days. Results can last 6 to 9 months, and, in some cases, up to year. However, according to its manufacturer, "Results from injectable dermal filler vary and correction is temporary. Supplemental 'touch up' treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal correction of . . . wrinkles and folds." Risks of JUVÉDERM XC Injectable Gel Although JUVÉDERM XC is considered safe, there is a risk of side effects. They are usually limited to the injection site, and include the following: Redness Pain or tenderness Firmness Swelling Lumps or bumps Bruising Itching Discoloration Infection For customized treatment, Allergan, Inc., offers two types of JUVÉDERM XC: JUVÉDERM Ultra XC, which is suitable for superficial facial lines and folds, and JUVÉDERM Ultra Plus XC, a stronger formulation that is used for deeper facial folds and lines. JUVÉDERM XC is the first HA filler that is FDA-approved for use on people of color.
Sculptra® Aesthetic injectable is used to reverse the signs of facial fat loss that occur with aging. By restoring collagen, which decreases as the body ages, it fills out shallow-to-deep wrinkles and folds that run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds). It is not appropriate for use in the eye and lip areas. Sculptra Aesthetic's main component is an alpha hydroxy acid called poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which is a safe and long-lasting synthetic (artificially created), biocompatible (can be used harmlessly in the body), biodegradable (able to be broken down by the body) substance. PLLA has been used for more than 20 years in many surgical products, including dissolvable sutures and soft-tissue implants. Benefits of Sculptra Aesthetic Facial Injectable U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved for the treatment of nasolabial folds, Sculptra Aesthetic is considered safe and effective for most patients. Because it works gradually, patients achieve a more youthful, natural-looking appearance with subtle, yet noticeable, results. Although not FDA-approved to treat them, according to manufacturer Valeant Aesthetics, Sculptra Aesthetic can be used on marionette lines (at the corners of the mouth) and chin wrinkles. Because it contains no animal, human or bacterial components, allergy testing is not necessary prior to treatment. There is little-to-no downtime after receiving Sculptra injections; most patients return to their normal activities immediately. Treatment and Results of Sculptra Aesthetic Facial Injectable Sculptra Aesthetic injections are designed to be a one-time treatment. A patient can have up to 4 injection sessions, which are spread 3 weeks apart. When injected into shallow-to-deep folds and lines, the additional collagen that is produced smooths them out, and adds volume to the skin. Results of Sculptra injections vary but, in a clinical study, their effects were shown to last for up to 2 years in most patients. Side Effects of Sculptra Aesthetic Facial Injectable Possible side effects of Sculptra injections include localized bleeding, tenderness, discomfort, redness, bruising and swelling. Side effects usually fade within a few days, although can last longer. According to Valeant Aesthetics, "Other side effects may include small lumps under the skin that are sometimes noticeable when pressing on the treated area. Larger lumps, some with delayed onset with or without inflammation or skin discoloration, have also been reported."
Body and facial hair transplants are the most permanent solution to problems of body and facial hair loss. Such procedures can provide relief from the distress caused when hair is lost from places on the face or body where it normally grows. For some individuals, disguising hair loss with wigs or hairpieces may be a good solution, but many patients desire a more permanent solution. There are a number of treatments available to help promote hair growth or hide hair loss, but the most effective treatment, with the most lasting results, is often hair transplantation surgery. Hair loss can occur as a result of aging, heredity, medications or underlying medical conditions, and can affect men and women of all ages. Aside from affecting the hair on the head, hair loss may leave bald areas, patchy spots or thinned hair on the face or body. Depending on the gender of the patient, hair loss may be more or less troublesome when it occurs in the beard area, chest, armpits, eyebrows, eyelashes or pubic region. Any noticeable hair loss may cause embarrassment, self-consciousness and even serious emotional distress to patients who suffer from it. Since most insurance companies consider hair transplantation a cosmetic procedure, however, though expensive, hair transplantation is rarely covered by insurance. Reasons for Body and Facial Hair Transplants The loss of hair on the face or body can be caused by a number of different factors, including: Disorders of the thyroid or pituitary glands Hormone deficiencies Certain medications Cancer treatments Nutritional deficiencies Some skin or immune disorders Traumatic stress Hair loss may be the result of alopecia areata, a condition of unknown origin believed to be an immune disorder, in which a problem with the follicles causes hair to stop growing and fall out, or a disorder known as telogen effluvium, in which a large section of hair goes into a resting phase, stops growing, falling out all at once, or trichotillomania, a psychiatric disorder in which a patient compulsively pulls out facial or body hair. The Transplant Procedure Beginning in the 1950s, doctors began experimenting with the transplantation of hair. In the early procedures, strips of the scalp were removed and transplanted to balding areas. In modern, perfected procedures, the strips of hair removed are carefully divided into individual follicles, usually between one and four follicles, and inserted individually into tiny surgical openings on the bare patches of the targeted area. During hair transplant, the donor and the recipient are the same individual. Donor hair to be used for transplantation is harvested from a discreet area of the scalp. It is removed from portions of the head, typically at the back and sides, that are considered permanent safe zones because they are unaffected by hair loss. Once the hair is removed and divided into follicular portions, the transplants are made individually. The precise amount of hair that needs to be taken from the head will be determined by the location to which it is being transplanted and the size of the area that needs coverage. Accuracy is essential, as these hairs will be transplanted one by one and positioned in a natural direction of growth. The hair grafts will continue to grow normally in their new location. A hair transplantation procedure takes between four and ten hours to perform, depending on the extent of the coverage required. Usually one session is sufficient, though sometimes additional sessions may be required. Recovery from Body and Facial Hair Transplants Patients who have undergone body or facial hair transplantation should expect some soreness, swelling, itching, crusting, and possible numbness at both the donor and recipient sites. Pain medication, either over-the-counter or prescribed, may be administered to lessen discomfort. Normal activities can usually be resumed after 24 hours, though symptoms may not completely subside for a week to 10 days. The results of this procedure appear gradually as the transplanted hair falls out and then regrows to restore a natural appearance. The incisions will fade over time to become less noticeable as well. Desired results are usually achieved after approximately 6 months, although this varies from patient to patient. The number of procedures needed depends on the extent of hair loss, as well as the patient's physical characteristics and goals for treatment. For some patients, a single session may be all that's needed, while others will require more. The doctor will determine how many treatments are needed to suit individual needs. Within 2 to 3 weeks after surgery, the transplanted hair will fall out, but within the next few months new hair growth will appear. Within a period of 6 to 9 months, most patients will have attained 60 percent of their new hair growth.
Body waxing is a convenient and effective method to remove unwanted facial or body hair. While not a permanent fix, waxing lasts much longer than shaving or using depilatories, since during this process hair is removed from the root. Waxing is frequently used as a successful means of removing unwanted hair from the eyebrows, upper lip, chin, underarms, legs, back, and bikini area. The treated area usually remains smooth and hairless for 4 to 6 weeks. Candidates for Body Waxing Almost anyone with unwanted hair is a candidate for body waxing, though the individual must be prepared to experienced some discomfort or pain during the process. Individual sensitivities vary so some people tolerate waxing on certain parts of their body more easily than others. Whenever the skin is in an unusually sensitive condition, body waxing should be avoided since in such situations the skin is more prone to "lifting," meaning that the top layer of the skin can be torn away during the waxing process. Because of this, individuals in the following categories are not good candidates for body waxing: Those taking blood thinners or corticosteroids Those who have psoriasis, eczema or rosacea Those with autoimmune diseases, like lupus Those who are sunburned, have infections or cold sores Those with severe varicose veins Those who have undergone recent laser treatment Those who have undergone recent chemical peels Types of Body Waxing Procedures There are two basic types of body waxing procedures: strip waxing and strip-less waxing. Strip Waxing During strip waxing, a thin layer of soft wax is spread over the area and a cloth or paper strip is applied and pressed firmly. The goal is to have the strip adhere to the wax and the wax adhere to the skin so that when the strip is quickly pulled off against the direction of hair growth, the hair is effectively removed. If the process is performed carefully, although there is brief pain involved, skin trauma is minimized and bruising, ingrown hairs and broken capillaries are avoided. Strip-less Waxing During strip-less waxing, a hard wax is applied to the skin in a thick layer and no cloth or paper strips are employed. When the wax cools and hardens, it is easily removed. Since during the strip-less method of body waxing the wax does not adhere as tightly to the skin as during strip waxing, this process if a better option for individuals with sensitive skin and finer hairs. It is also a less painful method of body waxing. After both strip waxing and strip-less waxing, a soothing lotion is applied to the skin to minimize discomfort. Although the treated hairs are completely removed and will not regrow for many weeks, not every hair is growing at the same time. The waxing process may have to be repeated in order to remove hairs that were in a dormant state during the first treatment. Benefits of Body Waxing There are several benefits to body waxing over other methods of body hair removal. Waxing is more effective than some other hair removal treatments because: Large amounts of hair can be removed at one time Waxing lasts for a relatively long time, 4 to 8 weeks Regrowth of hair is softer than after shaving or depilatory use Pain or discomfort lessens as treatments become routine Complications of Body Waxing Probably the biggest drawback to body waxing is the pain involved, although for most individuals the end results are well worth the discomfort. While short-lived, the stinging or burning can be intense, especially if the waxing is administered to sensitive areas of the body. It is very important that an experienced, licensed technician perform the body waxing since proper technique and careful sanitation is essential to maintain health and avoid infection. Even when waxing is performed with care, it is possible for red bumps, minor bleeding or bruising. or ingrown hairs to result, although these conditions are usually easily resolved. Such complications are most likely to occur during the primary waxing, especially on areas where hair growth is thick.

Undefined eyebrows and eyelashes can fail to accentuate the natural beauty of the eyes. Many women with light colored eye brows and eye lashes may wish to add a darker accent to their faces to highlight their eyes and other features. Tinting can add depth to the entire structure of the face for those with pale or light colored skin and very blonde or light brows and lashes. By matching the tint to the individual's natural look, brow and lash tinting can create a new look to the face without looking artificial. Eyebrow and eyelash tinting adds the illusion of thickness and dimension by simply changing the color. The eyes will suddenly appear more vibrant and the features will have more contrast. Before tinting the eyelashes, the aesthetician applies a protective cream, such as petroleum jelly under the eyes, which prevents the skin from getting stained. A cotton pad is then placed under the eyes and over the cream. As the patient shuts her eyes, the tint is applied to lashes with a fine brush, and allowed to set for at least ten minutes. To tint the eyebrows, the aesthetician will also first apply petroleum jelly the skin surrounding the brows. This protects the skin and prevents the dye from bleeding onto it. Then the tint is painted directly onto the brow. The dye sits for ten minutes, and any residue is gently removed. The results of permanent tints can last from one to three months. To help eye brow color last longer, individuals are advised to avoid using exfoliating cleansers, which can strip the color from the hair in the brows.

For too long, women have been suffering from urinary incontinence in silence. But thanks to a new treatment called EMSELLA®, that's starting to change. EMSELLA is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared device that uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy to stimulate the pelvic floor muscles, resulting in better urinary control. What Is EMSELLA and How Does It Work? EMSELLA uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy to stimulate the pelvic floor muscles, causing them to contract and strengthen. This strengthens the muscles and helps to prevent incontinence. Stress urinary incontinence is treatable without invasive procedures thanks to EMSELLA. Applying high-intensity focused electromagnetic technology to your pelvic floor stimulates muscle contractions and neuromuscular control below the bladder, uterus, and bowels. It also makes it possible to regain bladder control by strengthening your deep pelvic floor muscles. A 30-minute EMSELLA chair treatment involves sitting fully clothed on the chair (also known as a Kegel throne). In a single session, you involuntarily contract your pelvic muscles 11,000 times due to electromagnetic energy emitted by the seat of the chair. These contractions are comfortable and some women enjoy the sensation. Following the service, there is no downtime. Am I a Candidate for EMSELLA Urinary Incontinence Treatments? You may wonder if EMSELLA treatments are right for you if you suffer from urinary incontinence. EMSELLA is a relatively new, non-invasive treatment for urinary incontinence that has proven effective in clinical trials. It perfectly performs kegel exercises for you. The EMSELLA treatment may be a good option if you have urinary incontinence that is not caused by a physical obstruction. EMSELLA is not suitable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you have any other medical conditions, please consult with your doctor before scheduling an appointment for EMSELLA treatments. If you are struggling with urinary incontinence, EMSELLA may be a promising treatment option. EMSELLA is a non-invasive treatment that does not require any anesthesia or surgery. The treatment involves a series of sessions, and most patients see significant improvement after just a few sessions. How Many Sessions of EMSELLA Do I Need? The number of sessions of EMSELLA required for optimal results varies from person to person. For some, a single session may be enough to achieve the desired results, while others may require multiple sessions to improve over time. In general, for EMSELLA to work best, six sessions should take place twice a week, followed by monthly follow-ups. Our staff can design your customized treatment plan during a consultation. What Does EMSELLA Feel Like? EMSELLA is an innovative treatment intended to improve urinary incontinence in women. The treatment uses electromagnetic energy to stimulate the pelvic floor muscles, which can help to strengthen them and improve bladder control. So what does EMSELLA feel like? The treatment is very comfortable, and most women report feeling no pain or discomfort during the session. You may feel a tingling sensation as the electromagnetic energy is released, but it is often described as pleasant and enjoyable. Get started by scheduling an EMSELLA consultation with our office today. Let's work together to reach your goals!

LATISSE® eyelash enhancer is the first and only U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved cosmetic treatment for increasing the length, thickness and darkness of eyelashes. Available only through prescription, it is applied once a day to the base of the upper eyelashes. Results may be apparent within four weeks; full results take sixteen weeks. Exactly why LATISSE liquid solution causes eyelashes to grow is unknown. However, its active ingredient, bimatoprost, seems to increase the number of hairs in, and the duration of, a hair follicle's growth period. The result is longer and fuller lashes. Once LATISSE treatment is discontinued, its benefits gradually end. Application of LATISSE Solution LATISSE solution is applied at night. Contact lenses and makeup are removed, and skincare products applied, before using the LATISSE solution. To prevent contamination, the LATISSE solution is applied with a single-use disposable applicator. The applicator, which is coated with one drop of solution, is applied to the base of the upper eyelid, at the lash line. The applicator is moved from the inside of the lash line to the outside. Excess solution is blotted to prevent its spreading to other areas. A separate applicator is used for each eye. Contact lenses can be put back in 15 minutes after LATISSE treatment. Candidates for LATISSE Treatment Anyone who wants longer, fuller and darker eyelashes may be a candidate for LATISSE treatment. Those who have eye infections, or broken or irritated skin on their eyelids, or who use products for elevated intraocular pressure, should not undergo LATISSE treatment. A doctor-performed full medical history is taken prior to the start of LATISSE treatment. Side Effects of LATISSE Treatment The common side effects of LATISSE treatment end when treatment ends. Side effects include the following: Eye itchiness Eye redness Skin-darkening Eyelid redness Eye irritation Eye dryness There is one potential serious side effect of treatment. According to the manufacturer's website, LATISSE treatment "may cause increased brown iris pigmentation of the colored part of the eye which is likely to be permanent," although its occurrence is "very infrequent."
A medical pedicure promotes overall foot and nail wellness in addition to enhancing the appearance of the toes. This procedure is often recommended for patients with corns, calluses or other minor foot conditions who may require more intensive treatment than a traditional pedicure. Medical pedicures are becoming increasingly popular at nail salons, spas and podiatric offices and are often performed on patients with diabetes, vascular disease or rheumatoid arthritis, who may be at an increased risk for recurring foot ailments and are looking for a safe and healthy maintenance treatment. Medical pedicures may help to treat or prevent such conditions as: Athlete's foot Cracked heels Corns and calluses Ingrown toenails During a medical pedicure, the feet are cleansed with an anti-bacterial solution and gently exfoliated to help remove dry or dead skin. Depending on the needs and preferences of each patient, treatment may also include a glycolic peel, microdermabrasion or detoxing techniques such as massage. In some cases, buffers, pumice stones or electric files may be used to treat problem areas and soften the feet. Medical pedicure technicians can help to increase circulation to the feet, through massage and stimulation to the reflexology pressure points on the feet. Medical pedicures are a much more thorough treatment than traditional pedicures and may take up to two hours to perform. Medical pedicures offer a reduced risk of fungal and bacterial infections because of their extremely sterile practices, and patients leave feeling healthy and refreshed. It is important for patients to note that while a medical pedicure is effective in improving the overall condition of the feet and even treating certain minor conditions, it is not an adequate substitute for professional podiatric care and cannot effectively replace medical treatment.

Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive skin-exfoliation procedure designed to treat sun damage, scars, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. In addition to its cosmetic benefits, microdermabrasion helps to enhance circulation and lymph flow. Results are immediately visible, and there is no downtime for the patient, who can immediately resume regular activities. Performed in-office, microdermabrasion does not require anesthesia, and can be combined with other procedures such as chemical peels or laser treatment. Microdermabrasion is a much less invasive procedure than dermabrasion, which is used to treat more serious skin problems. Dermabrasion, in which several layers of skin are removed, is considered a surgical treatment. The Microdermabrasion Procedure During the microdermabrasion procedure, which is usually performed by an aesthetician, a handheld device is used to transmit tiny crystals of aluminum oxide across the targeted treatment area. The crystals and dead skin are then suctioned away with a vacuum tool, revealing fresh underlying skin. A treatment session can last from five to 60 minutes. The results of a single microdermabrasion treatment are temporary. For continued improvement, treatment should be repeated every 2 to 4 weeks. Risks of Microdermabrasion Microdermabrasion is considered safe for all skin types, and is appropriate for Asian and dark-skinned patients who may be at risk for skin discoloration with other types of treatment. There are no serious risks associated with microdermabrasion, although some patients experience mild redness and irritation, and patients older than 70 may have a slightly escalated risk of bruising and skin abrasions. Avoiding sun exposure after microdermabrasion is important because it may have removed some of the skin's natural protection. In patients who have a history of cold sores, undergoing microdermabrasion may reactivate the virus that causes them. In those cases, avoiding treatment around the lip area and/or taking preventative antiviral medication prior to treatment may be recommended.

Permanent makeup, also known as micropigmentation or cosmetic tattooing, is a cosmetic technique that uses dye or pigment that is permanently injected into the skin to resemble makeup or conceal imperfections. Permanent makeup can improve a person's appearance in a variety of ways, that may include: Enhancing features such as the eyebrow, eyelashes and lip Concealing scars or blemishes Camouflaging areas of uneven pigmentation All of these enhancements can be accomplished without the need for daily makeup applications. This procedure is FDA-approved and produces successful results for a wide range of cosmetic goals. Permanent makeup is quickly becoming a popular, convenient treatment for patients with minor cosmetic concerns. In some cases, permanent makeup is used to improve the appearance of a nipple after breast reconstruction. The results of this procedure are long-lasting and any fading can be addressed with with minor touch-up treatments. Candidates for Permanent Makeup Micropigmentation can be used for all skin types, and can be used to enhance the patient's natural appearance or improve the appearance of scars and other skin imperfections. For most patients, permanent makeup serves as a way to save time in their daily schedule. It may also be used on individuals whose ability to wear regular makeup is hindered by an allergy or other medical condition. This may include patients whose skin is easily irritated by most forms of traditional makeup, patients with arthritis and other painful conditions who have difficulty applying makeup, and those who have suffered hair loss on the eyebrows, sideburns or hair line. Permanent Makeup Procedure FDA-approved, allergy-tested dyes are made of mineral extracts and can be tinted to match the patient's skin tone as closely as possible. Individuals can choose the specific color, shade and intensity of dye for a completely customized procedure. After the application of a topical anesthesia, the dyes are injected into the skin using micro-needles. The procedure may last as little as 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. Patients can return home shortly after the procedure. The application of permanent makeup may cause mild discomfort. Ice packs can be used after treatment to reduce any pain or swelling, and antibiotic ointment may be applied to help prevent infection. Complications are rare but may include infection or allergic reactions to the dye. Permanent Makeup Results The results of the permanent makeup application are visible immediately, although more than one session may be required for larger areas or touch-ups. Most patients can achieve their desired results after two treatment sessions spaced one to two weeks apart. Aging and long-term sun exposure may lead to a reduction in color strength that may require touch-up treatments in order to maintain the original results. If removal of permanent makeup is desired, a laser procedure similar to tattoo removal may be performed, in order to remove pigmentation from the skin and restore the patient's original appearance.

Statistics suggest that hair loss affects millions of men and women in our country. If you are one of them, chances are you are looking for a solution that will meet your needs. We are proud to offer an emergent treatment that has quickly developed a proven track record of success: PRP therapy. What is PRP? PRP is platelet-rich plasma, a product that is present in the blood. Platelet-rich plasma is a nutrient-dense fluid that stimulates cellular regeneration within microenvironments like the hair follicles, joints, and also the skin. Platelets are robust cells that contain numerous growth factors, each of which is involved in certain cellular processes. Platelet-rich plasma has a long history of medicinal use related to tissue healing and regeneration. It is no surprise that this therapy has made its way into the field of hair restoration. How does PRP work for hair restoration? The primary purpose of PRP treatment for hair loss is to stimulate activity in the hair follicles. This may prompt an active phase of hair growth in follicles that have become inactive. PRP injections into the scalp may also support the active phase of newly implanted hair follicles. This occurs through the action of various growth factors. Platelets contain: Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF), which is involved in fibrin formation, blood vessel growth, and cell regeneration. Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), involved in the formation of new blood vessels. Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (FGF-2) is also involved in blood vessel formation, as well as the generation of specialized cells that heal and rejuvenate. Transforming Growth-Factor-Beta (TGF-b) is involved in bone metabolism in the body as well as matrix formation between cells. Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) stimulates collagen proliferation and cell growth as well as blood vessel formation. Insulin-Like Growth Factor - (IGF) provides necessary physiological regulation in nearly every cell. Behind the scenes, PRP facilitates very sophisticated responses. On the surface, PRP can provide the results you’ve been seeking. PRP Hair Restoration Treatment There are two ways in which PRP may be introduced into the hair follicles of the scalp. One technique is to perform microneedling, which creates micro wounds to superficial tissue. PRP is then applied topically where it can penetrate the scalp through the induced injuries. Within a few minutes, the microchannels begin to heal, but not before stimulating nutrients can be absorbed. An additional and popular technique for PRP hair restoration is to inject platelet-rich plasma into the scalp in the area where hair is thinning. Treatment is conducted with a topical anesthetic which numbs the superficial tissue on the head. After drawing blood, we process the vial in a centrifuge, a piece of equipment that spins the blood to separate platelets from red blood cells. Injections are then administered to the appropriate area of the scalp. The introduction of platelet-rich plasma into the area of inactive hair follicles stimulates a regenerative process intended to activate dormant growth cycles. Most patients need a series of treatments to achieve optimal results. How long do PRP injections take for hair restoration? Injection treatment begins with a brief blood draw that takes less than a minute. The second step of centrifugation takes a few minutes, during which topical numbing medication sits on the scalp. The injection aspect of treatment is meticulous – injections are positioned every half-inch across the area of thinning. As precise as this step is, it usually takes less than thirty minutes from start to finish. What Happens After the PRP Procedure? In most cases, there is zero downtime after PRP hair treatment. Because injections stimulate an inflammatory cascade through which tissue is repaired, patients are advised NOT to take any kind of anti-inflammatory medication to manage comfort. Our staff will discuss appropriate medications or strategies to minimize the discomfort that may occur after injections. How long will it take to see results? Consistency is crucial to obtain satisfactory results from PRP hair restoration. Treatments are typically scheduled monthly for a few months. Patients can expect to begin noticing improvement within two to three months. After the initial series of treatments, injections are repeated every three to six months depending on individual response and results. The initial effect that patients may notice after treatment is that they shed fewer hairs. Over time, they can expect to see an increase in thickness and length.

Thermage® therapy uses a unique form of radiofrequency energy to tighten loose or sagging skin. According to its manufacturer, Solta Medical, Inc., benefits of Thermage treatment "include the smoothing of wrinkly or uneven skin, better definition of facial features around the eyes, jaw and neckline, and even the smoothing and toning of unsightly bulges, dimples and wrinkles on the face and body." Thermage radiofrequency therapy is U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved for eyelid treatments. Using the Thermage wand, radiofrequency energy penetrates and heats skin tissue. The heat causes collagen to contract, which tightens and "lifts" the skin. Over time, as the collagen rebuilds itself, the skin tightens even more, further smoothing the treated areas. Thermage Radiofrequency Therapy Treatment The Thermage wand's treatment tip is placed against the skin, first spraying it with a coolant (cryogen), then heating it, then spraying it with cryogen again. The cryogen protects the top layer of skin as the radiofrequency energy heats the collagen in the lower layers. A newer Thermage wand has a Comfort Pulse Technology%u2122 (CCT) feature, in which a gentle vibrating sensation has been added to make treatment more comfortable. No preparation is required before undergoing treatment. The length of treatment depends on the size of the treatment area and its condition. The face usually takes about 45 minutes; other parts of the body can take up to 90 minutes. The majority of patients require a single treatment, although that, too, depends upon the condition of the treatment area. Thermage Radiofrequency Therapy Results Results appear gradually in the 2 to 6 months after treatment, although some patients see an earlier response. Depending upon the condition of a patient's skin and how it ages, results may last up to 2 years. Thermage Radiofrequency Therapy Advantages Unlike other ways of repairing loose and sagging skin, Thermage treatment has a number of advantages. They include: No significant recovery period or downtime Visible results after 1 to 2 treatments Continued improvement to skin over time No incisions are necessary Special care not required post-treatment Side effects of Thermage therapy are rare, but can include treatment-site redness, bumps or blisters.
Using ultrasound energy, Ultherapy® treatment lifts and tightens skin on the face and neck. Ultherapy treatment works on the deep layers of tissue usually targeted during a facelift or neck lift, but leaves surface skin alone. By heating tissue with sound waves, collagen production increases, resulting in younger-looking skin. According to its manufacturer, Ulthera, Inc., Ultherapy treatment "is the only noninvasive procedure FDA-cleared to lift skin on the neck, chin and brow." The Ultherapy Procedure During Ultherapy treatment, which is performed in a physician's office, the skin is cleansed, and ultrasound gel is applied to the target area. The Ultherapy handpiece is placed on the skin, delivering low-level focused heat as it moves over the target area. Mild discomfort may be experienced as the heat is delivered beneath the skin. Discomfort levels vary from patient to patient, and on the area being treated. It takes 60 to 90 minutes to treat the entire face and neck; a partial face or brow treatment usually takes 30 minutes. Ultherapy Treatment Results Ultherapy treatment is used on mildly to moderately loose or sagging skin on the face and neck. Results, however, vary from patient to patient, and on the condition and quality of the skin being treated. Treatment that "lifts" the brow reduces excess skin on the eyelids, making the eyes look more open. Treatment that lifts and tightens sagging skin on the neck and under the chin eliminates or reduces a double chin or "turkey-gobbler." Although some patients may see immediate improvement, results of Ultherapy treatment are usually apparent within 2 to 3 months, during which old collagen is replaced with new, more elastic collagen. At 6 months, full benefits are attained. Most patients need only one treatment, but those with significant issues may require more. It is possible for results to last up to a year. Ultherapy Treatment Side Effects Side effects of Ultherapy treatment are usually minor and temporary, and limited to the treatment area. Side effects include: Slight redness Slight swelling Tingling Tenderness Ultherapy treatment is not a substitute for a surgical facelift, but is an option for those not interested in or ready for surgery.

It used to be that liposuction was the only type of body contouring procedure that was available to patients. However, times have luckily changed and there’s a new non-invasive, FDA approved procedure that can help get rid of stubborn, unwanted fat: CoolSculpting How Does CoolSculpting Work? CoolSculpting technology works by freezing targeted fat cells and killing them. Once the fat cells have been frozen, your body will naturally eliminate them over the process of several months; leaving you with a slimmer looking physique. Am I a Candidate for CoolSculpting? Typically, good candidates for CoolSculpting are of a healthy weight but just have a few extra pounds of fat that they want to get rid of. Additionally, patients who are good candidates for CoolSculpting also don’t smoke, aren’t pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant, and are generally healthy. During your initial consultation, your physician will be able to determine whether or not CoolSculpting is right for you. What Does a CoolSculpting Treatment Feel Like? Some patients experience a slight amount of pain or discomfort during the CoolSculpting procedure itself while other patients don’t. For the most part, patients experience a strong cooling sensation that’s followed by a vacuum feeling. What Should I Do to Prepare For Treatment? The good news about CoolSculpting is that there really isn’t much you have to do to prepare for treatment. On average, we encourage patients to quit smoking several weeks before treatment and to not take any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen for at least 24 hours before the procedure. What Are the Benefits of CoolSculpting? The biggest benefit of CoolSculpting is that it gives patients real results every time. And, because CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure you won’t have to worry about any sort of surgery or recovery time. Additionally, because CoolSculpting destroys the fat in the body, it permanently gets rid of it. How Long is Each Session? How Many Sessions Will I Need? Each session takes about 30-60 minutes depending on the area that’s being targeted. During the first treatment, only about 25-30% of the fat will be affected and so it may require multiple treatments. What Happens if I Gain Weight Down the Road? Just like with any sort of body contouring procedure, permanent results from CoolSculpting are not guaranteed. We encourage all of our patients to eat a healthy diet and exercise on a regular basis to maintain their results. If, however, you have gained weight back after CoolSculpting, we may recommend that you do it again but we can discuss everything in detail during an appointment. As you can see, there are several unique benefits of CoolSculpting. If CoolSculpting sounds like something that you want to learn more about, schedule your consultation at our office today!

The UltraShape® System is U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved for reducing abdominal fat (abdominal-circumference reduction). It uses pulsed, focused ultrasound to target and and destroy fat cells. Because no heat is involved and the ultrasound waves are so precisely targeted, blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue are not damaged. Undergoing UltraShape treatment to contour the abdominal area requires no downtime, and eliminates the complications that often result from surgical fat-removal procedures such as liposuction. A treatment takes about 45 to 60 minutes, and provides measurable results within only 2 to 4 weeks. The UltraShape System can also be used to reduce fat on the thighs and flanks ("love handle" areas). Candidates for UltraShape Body Contouring Almost anyone who wants to remove localized pockets of fat in the abdomen, thighs and/or flanks is a candidate for UltraShape body contouring. A typical candidate is only moderately overweight, but has areas of fat that cannot be dieted or exercised away. Anyone who wants a significant amount of fat removed would benefit more from a treatment such as liposuction. The UltraShape System Procedure The UltraShape procedure is a simple one, with no anesthesia required. Before treatment begins, computer software is used to design an individualized treatment plan so that the the correct areas are targeted, and contouring is uniform. A handheld device (transducer) that converts electrical energy to ultrasound energy is run over the areas from which fat is to be removed. The pulsed energy, which contains no heat, destroys only fat cells; all other tissue is unaffected. The fat released by the destroyed cells is flushed naturally from the body via the liver. A typical treatment regimen consists of a total of 3 sessions, each performed 2 weeks apart. No recovery period is needed. Results from UltraShape Body Contouring Results from UltraShape treatment are visible within 2 to 4 weeks. Patients report seeing a decrease in fat and body circumference, and an improvement in body shape and skin tightness; overall patient satisfaction with the treatment is high. According to system manufacturers Syneron and Candela, in a randomized, controlled clinical study, "patients demonstrated an average reduction of 2.5 cm [per treatment session] in the treatment phase and 0.5 cm reduction in the control phase." To maintain results, a patient must not gain a significant amount of weight, and should continue to exercise. Risks of UltraShape Body Contouring Because it is noninvasive, there are few documented risks associated with UltraShape body contouring. In rare instances, it causes mild bruising, redness and swelling.
Laser lipolysis is an advanced, FDA-approved cosmetic procedure used to remove fatty tissue from localized areas of the body, and to contour those areas by tightening the affected skin. Designed specifically to target fat in parts of the body resistant to diet and exercise, lipolysis is a minimally invasive procedure, and represents a technological advance over liposuction, the original treatment for removal of localized fat. Benefits of Laser Lipolysis Although effective, liposuction is an invasive procedure that requires a lengthy recovery time. Laser lipolysis, on the other hand, offers effective results with minimal downtime. Just as there are several types of liposuction, there are several types of laser lipolysis. All are derived from conventional liposuction, during which unwanted fatty tissue is suctioned out of the body through small tubes called cannulas. In laser lipolysis, laser energy melts the fatty tissue before its removal, and smaller cannulas, which cause less tissue trauma, are used. Laser lipolysis, when performed as an isolated procedure, treats only small areas of the body. It is sometimes referred to as "lunchtime lipo" because it takes only an hour or two to produce effective results. When a more significant reduction of fatty tissue is required, laser lipolysis is often performed along with traditional liposuction, helping patients to achieve maximum results in just one treatment. After treatment, a patient can expect significant circumferential reduction and skin-tightening in the targeted area. Common areas treated with laser lipolysis include the waist, abdomen, back, hips, buttocks, knees, ankles, face and neck. Laser lipolysis has a number of benefits over traditional liposuction. They include: Less trauma Shorter procedure time Less scarring Less downtime Effective fat removal Skin-tightening Fewer risks and complications The Laser Lipolysis Procedure The laser lipolysis procedure works along the same lines as the conventional liposuction procedure, except that it uses laser technology. Laser energy heats the fat cells, liquefying them and making them easy to remove through the smaller cannulas. This significantly reduces the trauma of the procedure. The laser also improves the treatment-area skin, causing it to tighten and conform to the body's new contours. Conventional liposuction often leaves skin loose and hanging. When performed on its own, laser lipolysis requires only local anesthesia, and is generally well tolerated. Depending on the size of the area treated, the procedure can last from less than an hour to several hours. Because the incision is small, no sutures are needed, and scarring is minimal. In some cases, scarring is not visible at all. A patient can return home shortly after treatment. Risks of Laser Lipolysis Although laser lipolysis is considered safe, it is not appropriate for patients who are pregnant or regularly take certain medications. Because of the minimally invasive nature of the treatment, there is a lower risk of side effects, which include bruising, soreness, bleeding and swelling, than with conventional liposuction. Small lumps may be palpable at the treatment site, but will disappear in a short time. More serious complications are rare, but may include nausea, vomiting, fever, infection or prolonged bruising. If these symptoms are present, immediate medical intervention is required. Recovery from Laser Lipolysis After laser lipolysis, patients can often return to work and other regular activities the next day. The positive effects of the procedure are immediately apparent, and the treated area, as it heals, continues to improve for several months. As with conventional liposuction, results of laser lipolysis are considered permanent unless a significant amount of weight is gained after treatment.

Chemical peels remove damaged outer layers of skin to make skin smoother, reduce scarring and remove blemishes. Ranging from mild to strong, there are three types of chemical peels: alphahydroxy acid (AHA), trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and phenol. The strength of each peel is tailored to the patient. Peels can be combined with other procedures, such as facelifts, for additional improvement to skin. Chemical peels may be covered by insurance if they are performed for medical rather than cosmetic reasons. Chemical peels are performed in a plastic surgeon's or dermatologist's office, or an outpatient surgical center. Anesthesia is not required because TCA and phenol have anesthetic properties, and AHA produces only a slight stinging. Chemical Peel Procedure During a TCA or phenol peel, the skin is cleansed and the solution is applied, which may cause a brief stinging sensation. Petroleum jelly or a waterproof adhesive tape may be put on the skin following a phenol peel. During an AHA peel, the skin is cleansed and the solution applied; there is no need for post-peel ointment or covering. Side Effects of Chemical Peels A phenol or TCA peel can result in tingling or throbbing, reddened skin, a crust or scab, and significant swelling that lasts, depending on the strength of the peel used, about a week. With a phenol peel, eyes may be swollen shut at first, and the patient may be put on a liquid diet and advised to keep talking to a minimum. Any tape used is removed after a day or two. AHA peels can cause temporary stinging, redness and irritation, as well as flaking or crusting. After a chemical peel, it is essential that the skin be protected from the sun.

Microneedling creates microscopic openings in the surface of the skin. It causes the tissue to develop new collagen and elastin, resulting in smoother, firmer skin. The treatment is completely non-surgical and requires little downtime. What is Microneedling? Microneedling is a rejuvenating skin treatment that addresses: Wrinkles and fine lines Hyperpigmentation Sun damage Mild inelasticity Acne scars Large pores Rough skin Dull skin You may hear microneedling referred to as percutaneous collagen induction, because the treatment increases collagen in your skin. Collagen is the supportive scaffolding of youthful, smooth skin. It naturally declines with age. By inducing the creation of collagen (as well as elastin), microneedling leads to smoother, plumper, firmer skin. The Microneedling Process Modern treatments use an automated pen-like device. It’s handheld. The head of the device contains a circular arrangement of tiny needles. The device is set to penetrate the skin at a certain depth, making the treatment highly customizable. As the provider passes the head of rotating needles across the skin, the needles make tiny openings in the epidermis. These minuscule punctures prompt a healing response in the skin without damaging tissue. Opening the skin’s pores for nourishing topicals: Another benefit of microneedling is that the skin is essentially opened up via the tiny channels made, and can thereby better absorb any variety of rejuvenating topical ointments, creams and other skin products chosen by you and the provider. How Long Does it Take to Heal from Microneedling? Microneedling is minimally invasive, but your face will be flushed and red for about 24-72 hours after the appointment. During this time, don’t apply facial cosmetics. We know it is tempting to conceal the redness, but microneedling opens up the pores of your face, so the last thing you want to do is clog all those channels into the epidermis with makeup. For 24-48 hours, it is normal to experience peeling, dryness, swelling and bumps. Follow our directions for which moisturizers and cleansers to use during this time. Your skin will start looking radiant and fresh after a few days, and results will continue to improve over the next couple of months as new collagen and elastin forms.

Morpheus8 for the face is a microneedling treatment that is quickly gaining popularity among dermatologists, aestheticians, and other providers. It uses fractional radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen production and improve the appearance of the skin. Microneedles penetrate the skin and deliver RF energy to the deeper layers during a session. This process results in a decrease in wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, and other common complexion concerns. What Is Morpheus8? Morpheus8 for the face is a revolutionary treatment that can help improve wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging with an FDA-cleared device. Morpheus8 uses microneedling technology and radiofrequency energy to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which can help improve skin tone and texture. The Morpheus8 treatment for the face is a minimally-invasive treatment that can take place in a doctor’s office. The treatment is relatively quick, and no downtime is required afterward. Some patients may experience some redness and swelling immediately after the treatment, but this typically subsides within a few hours or days. What Skin Concerns Can Morpheus8 Treat? The Morpheus8 treatment is suitable for all skin tones and requires little or no downtime. Various skin concerns can be addressed with Morpheus8 treatments. When handled by an experienced individual, it can: Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles Improve the appearance of sagging skin by firming and tightening it Ensure smooth skin Ensure that pores do not appear large Relieve acne scarring and hyperpigmentation Reduce the appearance of stretch marks Remove a small amount of fat just beneath the skin (not enough to reduce facial volume significantly) Morpheus8 works by creating microscopic channels, which allow the device to deliver radiofrequency energy to the deeper layers of the skin. This energy then helps to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which are proteins that support smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin. There are also several places on the body that can benefit from the treatment, including the abdomen, buttocks, chest, arms, and knees, but it is widely used on the face and neck (particularly to treat jowls, to firm the jawline, and to enhance the area around the mouth). What Happens During a Morhpeus8 Session? Prior to treatment, numbing cream may be applied to the area to make it more comfortable. On the treated area, 1-3 passes will be conducted with the Morpheus8 device. Using the special applicator with coated pins, fat and connective tissue will be gently warmed, resulting in tighter skin, reduced wrinkles, and overall rejuvenation. Most people require three treatment sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart, to achieve optimal results. The entire treatment session will last for about 30 to 60 minutes. After the treatment, you may notice some redness and swelling in the treated area, but this is normal and should resolve within a few days. Morpheus8 Recovery and Aftercare Recovery from Morpheus8 is relatively easy, with only a few days of social downtime involved. For approximately one to three days following treatment, you may experience redness, itching, and swelling. You can take care of your skin after a Morpheus8 treatment by: Turning over scabbing and crusting with exfoliating cleansers and enzymatic masks Staying away from anything that irritates your skin until it has healed Avoiding direct sun exposure and using sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 Utilizing products containing growth factors, peptides, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and retinol to maintain your results after the initial healing process is complete How Long Does It Take To See Results? Typically, patients will see initial results within a few days after their treatment. However, full results may take three to six months to appear, as collagen production takes time. But the results from Morpheus8 are long-lasting, and patients can expect to see a gradual and significant improvement in the appearance of their skin with maintenance sessions.
